We are all saddened by the loss of Mr. Celi. It is always hard when we lose a member of our "family". Mr. Celi would not want us to be sad, though. He would want us to remember him for the great lessons he taught not only about science but also about life.
Everyone who knew Mr. Celi has a great memory or story to share. If you would like to share yours here, please do so!

Mr Celi was truly a great person, he taught me many great things about science and valuable lessons for life. One of the greatest and best advice he gave me was that its okay to make mistakes and life is short so enjoy it while you can! Mr.Celi's class always felt like a cave full of treasure! I learned so many things while I was in his class! I'll miss Mr.Celi a lot! Please remember that he always wanted us do the right thing and please help keep the environment clean. Mr. Celi would have liked it!:) I was very lucky to have a teacher like Mr.Celi!

I'll miss you soooo much. You taught me so much aside from science and I will remember you forever. Whoever didn't know you really missed out on something special. You would say that your #1 goal was to not only teach students science, but also life lessons. You achieved your goal. I'll miss your jokes the most. You always told them to make everyone laugh, but the only thing about them that made us laugh was how not funny they were. Those were the best times that I'll never forget. No matter how good or bad the joke was, you always made us smile. I can honestly say that I smiled everyday in that class. You are probably the only teacher that would answer every single one of my questions and actually think about them. You are truly a special teacher/person and we will all miss you so very much.

I too have benefited from Mr. Celi. Even as an old student of his, he never stopped believing in me. When the time came that I was invited to go to a pricy leadership conference, he whole-heartedly supported me in mind and money, generously giving me one of many donations that would help see me to the conference. To this day, I tell people stories of his abstract, hands-on lessons, and of his classroom that looked more like the playground of an overgrown, happy, self-satisfied child. I will always remember him, and I miss him dearly already. We all love you and miss you, Mr. Celi. I will never forget your great kindness, compassion, insight, and sense of humor. No matter how good or bad things were, you always had something up your sleeve to make me smile. Thank you!
Love Always,
Christina A. (8th grade class of

Mr. Celi, you remain to this day one of the best teachers and human beings I have ever known. Never was there a day when you opened your mouth to utter a negative comment. You were always there, coffee mug in hand, smiling sunnily at us all, trying to get us to see beyond the class itself, into the more important lesson: life. There was not a day that passed when I didn't smile- you made sure of that. I will miss you, your playground of a classroom, your kindness, compassion, insight, and generosity for years to come, but your lessons will live on in my heart, in my soul. You have shown me what it is to love what you do, and to cherish life even while you struggle to endure it as Flannery O'Connor once said. My only regret is not having visited you sooner to thank you for the profound impact you've made on my life, and I'm sure, the lives of all your students. To this day, I tell people about your abstract, hands-on lessons, the dumpster-diving homework, the making of in-class landfills, and the greater story behind it all. I miss you Mr. Celi, and I hope you're happy where you are now. Thank you for always believing me in words and actions. Thank you so very, very much! Carpe Diem! Seize the day!
Love Always,
Christina A. (8th grade class of 2005)
mr. celi was an amzing teacher. but he didnt just teach us about science. he taught us about life and the skills we need as adults to survive in our world. he would help the most he could and not expect a thing in return. his sense of humor was also great. he made a huge difference in my life and will be missed dearly.
-Nick Ochoa 8th grade class of 08
I remember when I was in his class, and I always hated it. I never thought he taught us anything. But I remember seeing him on the promotion day, and I was talking to him. And I had realized all the lessons he taught. I realized that I had learned a lot. Not about science, but about life.
I always wanted to see him after I had started high school, but I never got the chance to.
Anyways.
I want to say, Thank you Mr.Celi. Thank you for all the good times we had in your class. Thank you for the lessons I learned. Thank you for being a great teacher.
Sincerely,
Michelle Bulisache.

From Nancy
Mr. Celi, You did good things and you taught the kids at La Cima that science and life can be fun and you taught the kids much about both. May God bless your soul and may your family and friends find comfort in the love you had for them and life. May you rest in peace. Nancy (one of your mom's)
Dearest Mr. Celi,
You were the heart and soul that of our 8th grade year! No matter what our day was like, you're 5th period was amazing and you were our favorite teacher. In your messy messy class room, we learned real world science that I recall, use, and build upon to this very day. That seemed to be your goal, to tell us something that we could bring back with us. Whether it be concidering the vastness of the universe and how human species' history is so miniscule compared to our planet's life and cycles or a joke you heard the other day. We always had something to ponder that afternoon. I remember discussing energy eficiency concerning every day tasks, water conservation, smart cars! I remember myself and a few friends sneaking up to your room for 'lunch detention' for two weeks just to hang out with you and order pizza then yell at people out your window! I remember your trust in me, Stephanie and Kristin while we helped organize the Space Mission trip, as well as Catalina Island groups. I remember you telling Ana to "Get outta hea!" when she would come say hi durring her 6th period. I remember your ridiculous jokes you would tell on your kids karaoke machine strapped to you belt. I remember you having kids vacume the hall with that manual vacume machine from the 70's. I remember once refering to your pseudo-hippy woodstock days then Zach, Ben and I refering to it all year long. I remember perpously sitting behind you with Kristin on the Catalina trip so you would make sure to get some sleep, then bug you in the morning ;). I remember you're excitement as we did the squid disection at Catalina.
I remember the first day of school, you talked about your grey hair and I told you it was signifying your wisdome. Oh, how we all found out how true that was! And I remember the last day of school, promotion, and your beaming face as I walked over to you for a hug. You were so proud of us all those of us who knew you in class or out. You were so happy for the memories we shared, and so happy for us to be moving forward in our lives. Our lives were forever changed by you, and none of us will forget it Sal! Much love and thanks. Every student of yours, from before my year, durring and after, we will never forget you.
with love,

Mr. Celi was one of those teachers that made a differece. We all owe so much to him. He was just amazing. We lost a great person. I don't even know what to say. I remember all the good times, and his crazy room. All the stuff he did for the school... I'm glad he got his wish for the solar panels last year! We will never forget him, and we'll all fight for conservation and do our share because of him. He went above the state standards, and tried to make us better people, too. We love you Mr. Celi! I proposed a memorial garden at La Cima, and Ms. Gault said it sounded like a great idea. As we plan it I'll be sure to give everybody details and how they can help!
We will miss you,

Mr. Celi, the BEST. He will always be remembered as a person who was fun to be around with. He was one of the best teachers that I had. People loved him because of his great sence of humor and his personality. So rest in peace Mr. Celi the truly best. ~Jesus Islas Class of 08~
I was really lucky to had Mr.celi as a teacher he was always smiling an goofing around... I cant forget all the times he made us laugh for stuped things he would always find different ways to teach us science
I have to say he is one of the best teachers I've ever had.
I remember one time I fall asleep in his class and he came-up to me and whispered in my ears I wokeup all scared and he started laughing, and how he used to stand outside his door during passing periods yelling everyone to hurry up so that we wouldnt be late.

It's just so devastating. Mr.Celi was the kind of person who gave you a reason to smile as soon as you walked through that door. He's in heaven right now and right now he's making a crazy expierement or telling a joke to somebody. he'll never be forgotten and we all love him.

Mr. Celi was an absolutely amazing teacher. He was one of those people who could make you smile while making fun of you. :]
Mr Celi is the reason that I am taking Biology and Honors Biology at Mountain View. He is the one who got me in to Science, and he will always be in my heart.
Mr. Celi is one of my favorite teachers I've ever had.
We love you, and we miss you.
<3 forever, Katelyn Loomis
ps. your room is really messy. and it always will be. :]
I didn't really know Mr.Celi but he really had carisma for teaching. I wish that I would of gotten the chance to be in one of his classes. People and students might of said that his classroom was a total mess, but guess what? It had all the qualities of a learning enviornment. Mr.Celi new the real secret of how to encourage students to learn and later on become someone in life. He enjoied teaching a lot, you could see it in his eyes. We will all miss Mr.Celi walk the halls at La Cima.

Ps... thank you for taking me on the CIMI trip two years in a row.

Sal, what a wonderful, funny, crazy kind of guy! We used to taunt each other about our trips, I'm off to Thailand I told him. He would say wow, well I'm going to China. During one hot, long, afternoon assembly he walked over to me and said real quite one word,"Italy" Aghhhh, you dog! I told him, you are sooo lucky. He replied, yes, yes I am. Sal, LaCima will not be the same, not as interesting or funny you will be dearly missed. Thomas
Last Thursday while we were getting ready for our Open House, I saw Mr. Celi. He was setting the MESA booth, and I could not stop myself and told him how great everything was looking. He told me he wanted more students to join the club, he said it with passion and hope. I promised him I will pass the word out and encourage more students to participate in MESA. I could see he did not wanted our students learning to be limited to a classroom set, he wanted students to explore, to learn, to discover, to succeed. He will be always remembered and missed dearly.
Love,
Mrs. Gonzalez
mr. celi was a really great person and a wonderful teacher. we were always doing something fun in his class and he made science fun. he helped la cima in so many ways, getting us solar panels, cimi, mesa, etc. he made la cima that great school that it is today and i am glad that i got the chance to know him and sit in his messy class every day. he will be missed by everyone who ever knew him. i was so lucky to meet such a great soul and i will never forget him no matter how old i get. i'll miss you mr.celi

Mr.Celi's room was probably my favorite class in the entire school.
We'd always go through his stuff and find things from so long ago and we'd end up talking about it the entire time.
He was one of the teachers you could get along with easily and you could go to if you had a question.
His teaching methods were so crazy and scattered there really wasn't a lesson plan, but we still learned more than we ever expected.
When I wanted to go to Catalina Island in eigth grade, he helped me out so much to get there.
That was the best trip I've ever had and I will always remember it.
Mr.Celi was one the best teachers I've ever had.
I am extremely grateful I got to have him as my teacher.
I will certainly miss him and I will never forget him.

I know I did not have Mr. Celi as a teacher, back in middle school, however it was the crazy stories that I heard from my friends who saw him every day. I had to rely on those stories up until the day I had to go to him with my permission slip. That permission slip was for a once- in -a- life time- trip, to CIMI. He was the one to decide if I was eligable to go. With his decision I experienced the beauty of meeting new people who are still my best friends today. Yet, the life changing thing about the trip was that I saw magnificent things I never knew existed. So in a way he opened my eyes to see some answers in this puzzling world. Those are the people who make this world go round. People who we need to have in our every day lives. Thank you Mr. Celi. <3

Mr. Celi was absolutely amazing. He was a wonderful teacher and the best i have ever had. his class was the one where everyone would say i cant wait for Mr. Celis class to start what are we going to learn today?? He knew how to teach so everyone was interested and he was extremely random and hilarious. Which made him such a great teacher, friend, and person. Mr. Celi will be missed. He is in my prayers.
I am speechless at the sight of such news. Mr. Celi was one of those teachers whose spirit would always be with you. He was funny, and amazingly intelligent and passionate about science, current affairs, and the environment. More personally, he was one of the few adults I know that tried to combat my social anxiety. I would regularly eat lunch in his room to avoid being in the crowded cafeteria, and every time I did he would have me talk out the day's problems, and remind me that I couldn't get a job "counting birds on a desert island."
It was much more than just a class, and some of the hardest thinking of and about my life took place within that daily hour. And Mr. Celi was so enthusiastic, it got everyone there ready for whatever assignment we had that day, from reading the Onion to discussions on how to reduce car pollution.
His room was full of so much "junk" that anyone was free to use. I remember whittling down class time having Bop It competitions, and helping him set up a class webcam that was displayed on his TV.
Mr. Celi was a great person first and foremost, aside from being a great teacher and thinker. He will be missed by all that have had the luck to meet him.

Mr Celi was the best teacher in the world!!! but his life was taken real soon becuase of the tragic car accident =( but we will never forget him as long as we keep up the spirit we can think that Mr.Celi will be behind us if we keep things back top normal. He taught the 8th graders about life lesson that will be very useful later in life. Also, he was a real fun teacher becuase we didn't have to read out of a book which will be seriously boring and that's the thing i also like about him.
hi im santos rodriguez. i just want to say that MR.Celi is the best. When i was on the bus my friend past away but i dint belive her. Then she told me again and another friend told me its true and i say ohh my god. I like MR.Celi because he teach me everything. In my opinion i think MR.Celi is the best teacher i had, but its ok im not going to cry because he is with use
Mr.Celi was the best teacher I have ever had in 8th grade. Even though it was just a small time, I learned many different and fascinating stuff. He is an inspiring person and always will be. When I heard a news from a friend that he died I was like "HUH?". But when I confirmed It, I was really shocked he did soooooo many great things and Why did god take his soul? As his student I can only say 1 thing and that is: he is really a unique teacher that will make things more lively..

You will forever be one of the greatest teachers. The contributions You made to our wonderful school are great. I'll always remember the jokes you said "what did the fish say when it bumped into a cement wall,......Damn!!!!!! JB WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU =]!! <3!
I was lucky enough to do our 8th grade registration presentations in Mr. Celi’s room every year. Where most teachers would just let counselors drone on and on about nothing…Mr. Celi was different. He got involved and wanted to make sure that each and every student was thinking about their future. Mr. Celi would jump in whenever my attempts at humor failed and he was always willing to lead the class, myself included, back to the focus on the importance of education and our future. In between classes, while I played with a wide assortment of the largest collection of “stuff” I had ever seen, he would tell me how much he loved to travel and how much he loved working with the students at LaCima. Mr. Celi was one of those people that leave a positive impression on everyone they meet. I will be forever grateful for the impact that Mr. Celi has made on all our lives and he is dearly missed.

My name is Sarah, I live in NY. Mr.Celi was my uncle. He loved to teach the students at La Cima Middle School. I'm glad that he taught you life lessons and hope that you remember them forever. He was the greatest uncle that anyone could have. I miss him so much and I'm sure you all do too.
Please Pray for him and our family!

Mr. Celi was and will always be my favorite teacher. I learned so many life lessons from him and his class. I remember walking into his class on the first day of school and he told us that it wasn't a science class, but a life lessons class, and that was the definite truth.
Everyday in 8th grade I always looked forward to going to his class. He pushed us to do the best we can all the time.
I remember how he would let me sit in the back of the class on my very own stool and tower over all the other kids in the class. And how he would let Karen, Taylor, and I to draw all over the back boards in class.
I remember how you trusted in Karen, Taylor and I to organize the entire CIMI trip our 8th grade year. That is a trip that is truly unforgettable.
I miss doing Current Science, I miss him taping Taylor and my thumbs down so we could pretend to be turtles with Charlie, I miss messing around with all the random stuff in his classroom, I miss getting off topic to discuss whatever was on our minds, and most of all I miss Mr. Celi. He was and will always be an inspiration and will always be in our hearts and our memories.

Mr. Celi was a great guy. He taught me and my peers so much about science and life in general. I wish that he had been able to teach these valuable lessons to more people. Everyone has a lot to learn from him. And I have a feeling that even though he may not be living with us today, I think he still teaches us.
I luv mr. celi. he was a good teacher and friend....he will be missed dearly! thank you mr. celi and goodbye
he was the funiest teacher i ever had i will miss him his class room always make me felt better
u were an awesome teacher Mr. Celi even though i wasnt in ur class very long, we did a lot of work together in teen court and u were lotsa fun to b around R.I.P. Mr.Celi
Mr. Celi was my first science teacher. So you know the shock I recieved when i started high school and my teacher was "normal". But he was the best science teacher I had, even though I was only in his class for a month. But I had him twice a day so it seemed more like two. :) I'm just sorry to all of the kids who will never have him as a teacher.
I miss you Mr. Celi.

I remember having to pick up his attendance one day, and under all his "junk" we finally found it. With a large coffee stain on it :) i used to hear stories about his gum collection!
it's not goodye, because we will remember you. I didn't ever have Mr. celi, in fact i barely knew him. But after reading all of the positive comments left about him, i wish he had been my science teacher. He impacted so many students lives. Thank you mr. celi!

well i know i didn't know mr. Celi but i had been in his room a couple of times... the first time i went into his class room was in sixth grade i had to go in there because he for got his "toe jam". i thought his room was a huge mess... well it was. the last time i went into his room my friend Gina and I were whereing head bands around our heads like hyppies... he said "you better not where thoes in class." We said to each other after we left his room "we are going to where these to class" then he made her take it off in his class... i said that was so mean...

My name is Alea. I am the neice of Leesa Irwin, Mr. Sal's companion. I wanted to leave a comment and say how much we have all appriciated the love and support shown from the community, his students, and fellow teachers. He meant alot to me and my family. He always made me laugh at Christmas. He used to say it was "Our little Holiday". There are so many things that he brought to my family. He showed my beautiful aunt the world. He took her everywhere. I thank him so much for sharing those things with her. She is so wonderful and deserved every minute she had with him. This tragedy has been hard for us, but it's nice to see so many people who care so greatly for such a wonderful man. My oldest son just adored him. When we went to his home one year for Christmas, my son and him jumped on that trampoline forever. He was such a big kid. He lived life big. Everything he did was huge. He traveled huge, his classroom was filled stuff (as was his house!!). But those are the things that made him Uncle Sal. His house had all kinds of crazy buckets everywhere outside, to collect rain water. He was always thinking of some kind of contraption! I loved him for those things, but most of all, I loved him for loving my aunt and family. He loved us all, even if we were mean or in a grumpy mood, he always did his best to make us smile-and it always worked! Uncle Sal is greatly greatly missed. I know he is sitting with my aunt at all times. He has not left her side during this hard time. Bless you all and thank you for all your wonderful comments. The family checks this alot and it helps to see such wonderful things said about such a wonderful man.

Mr.Celi was such a unique person, he was full of excitement and adventure. He showed me what it meant to live life to the fullest and that being different meant that you never care about what people say. He had so much joy, that when i would walk into his classroom i would feel this instant comfort of where i could just be myself. Mr.Celi did live his life to the fullest and he did extrodinary things. I remember going to Catalina Island, he made the trip so joyful, personally I learned so much from him on that trip; not only did he teach me about the ocean but he taught me to respect the animals and everythings around. Although his room was really messy it had so much stuff to play around with. "One mans trash is another mans treasure" this is what Mr.Celi told me once and i will never forget, i think he basically told me this because it is true, what he collected was once one mans trash and the item became his treasure. I am so greatful that i got to know such a joyful man, it's not everyday you meet somebody like Mr.Celi, he honestly was one in a million. We love you so much Mr.Celi and you are greatly missed.

out of the many things that mr. celi has taught me when i had him, the most important this was to live life. or he liked to say it " carpe diem" Mr. Celi made me who i am today. without his wonderful class i wouldnt be majoring in biology and loving science as much as i do. Mr. Celi has touched every single one of us. i'm just sad for those who didn't get a chance to know him.
every time i think about mr. celi's death i can't help but think that my life hasn't been meaningful enough. mr celi was a man that traveled everywhere and he wasn't afraid to do anything. he was never afraid to say anything either. his death was sudden to all of us, but he was the one teacher that cared about his students.
i keep thinking what if something like that were to happen to me. what would i be known for? a simple thing like a tire failing could happen to any of us.
he was that one teacher that actually made me interested in science. he wasn't like all the other teachers out there. i remember one day in class he brought in a giant piece of seaweed. it was horrible and it started to smell really bad after a week or so, but what other teacher has brought a huge piece of seaweed and post it in thier class?
he cared deeply for our environment. i remember he would tell us to bring in our batteries when they were dead so that the chemicals wouldn't leak when we threw it away at home. and i remember he told us about cars and gas and why we shouldn't be driving huge cars. but most of all i remember the big hunk of cow poop in his room. it was in a container, don't worry. but he was teaching us about methane and where it comes from. haha
it seems like all we do now a days is live life for the future, but what if there is no future for us. what if today was our last day. why do we strive for something in the future even though we might not make it there. mr celi said to me one day in class "carpe diem" sieze the day.
he was a great teacher, one that gave us that hands on experience that we needed. and his room was full of toys that a 12 year old boy would have, but that was mr.celi for you.
i can't help but think about all the people he left behind. two sons and a girlfriend that was also in that accident with him.
it crazy to think that youre life could change in a blink of an eye.
i could be gone tomorrow, and i wonder if anyone would really care. would people come to my funeral?
i've always believed in karma, and those who do good will recieve good. but mr. celi hasn't done anything bad. why was his life taken away? he was simply going to san diego with his girlfriend. why do life happen the way it does? why does a teacher die. he has touched many of our lives all the years that he's been a teacher. it's not fair. but then again nothing is ever fair in this world. and nothing ever makes sense.
Mr Celi. we all love and miss you dearly

Hello Students and Faculty of La Cima,
I was a classmate of Mr. Celi's when he was getting his Master's of Education at the University of Arizona. I am so sorry for your loss. He was a great friend and added so much to my growth and student experience as a master’s student.
When he was learning about teaching and experiencing his student teaching semester, he was always so excited. He filled our classroom with enthusiasm, passion, positivism, and humor for the teaching profession. He always had little “words of wisdom” to pass along to us as classmates, as I am sure he did for you, his students. One day, he came into class with a book for each of us, The Prince. He strongly believed in the lessons of this book and felt that we, as future educators, should read that book. He was never afraid to stand up for what he thought was right or would help others further themselves, for this I admired him greatly.
Your scholarly community has lost a great leader, and I am so sorry. However, all of you who have been touched by him have a piece of him with you. Take that and cherish it, as he was a wonderful person and an outstanding teacher. I am sure that he is proud of each and every one of his students as he always was. :-)

Hey what up mmr. celi. we all misssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss you
I remember in the sixth grade that I was in the computer lab and he brought his class in there to work on a project. My sister was in the class at the same time and I was shocked. He told my friend and I(we were the only 6th graders there) to look at the board, too. He showed us the worlds biggest pimple. I almost died. He was one of my role models. I also made a video for him. In memory. Though my friends and I didnt get credit, we didnt want credit. We just wanted people to know that Mr.Celi was an awesome teacher and that he wouldnt be forgotten.
he'll always be in our hearts in minds. all this time and he is not forgotten.
i loved mr .celi
